weekend reads

Here are some of the things that feed my monkey mind…

now that I’m out of college and living on my own (for almost a year now!! yikes!) I’m always looking for money saving tips and financial advice. (following it is another story)

I’ve been worried about not getting enough calcium since I stopped drinking milk but it seems like I’ll be ok. Don’t forget the Vitamin D though because it helps the body absorb calcium. and makes you happy!

eat your beans!

loved this post on feeding your soul.

and this one on doing the hard things – I find myself falling into this trap and it’s a good reminder to get stuff done so you can be happier and stress less in the long run

modern day dieting: willpower – how much willpower are you spending on your weight every single day?

green food labels make nutrition-poor food seem healthy – don’t believe everything you read on the box at the grocery store. please, just put it down.

spring is a great time to detox and these simple yoga poses can help the body process toxins. also, this guide to the benefits of yoga inversions. I’m telling you, legs up the wall after a long day = heaven.

I am very lucky to have family members that support my crazy eating habits but I try my hardest not to be a snob.

foodie friday

recipes that caught my eye this week – enjoy!

roasted strawberry and rhubarb parfaits – yes, please!

grilled cheese topped with a fried egg – how have I not done this???

if you know me, you know I love carrot cake…but who has time to bake it??

grain-free pizza – just seven ingredients! yup, seven. (including water and salt)

meatballs with tangy cilantro chive sauce – um, yum.

quinoa banana skillet – haven’t made quinoa in a while but it might have to happen now!

zoodles!! I know it doesn’t replace pasta but it’s a nice swap once in a while! plus it’s just a fun word.

so many layers but it looks like this birthday cake is worth the trouble.

I’m thinking I need to bring smoothies back into my life…

mixed berry chia jam – would be prefect on these lemon scones or this paleo banana bread (which I have made and it’s delicious).

If you try any of these recipes, let me know how it goes!

Monkey Mind Food

Here are some of the things that are feeding my monkey mind lately…

after finishing off most of my easter candy (yes, it only took me three days) I want to put the rest all over my face.

I’ve been craving some out-of-the-ordinary things lately. like margarita pizza, berries and spinach salads, quesadillas, and polenta. Also pancakes.

these things college should have taught you are all true. the end.

great tips for cooking staples at home, both for saving money and being mindful of all the ingredients in your food.

this visual guide to nut portion sizes makes me incredibly sad, but it’s a good reminder as I tend to eat nuts by the handful. although, so is this. Now I don’t feel so bad about the jar of almond butter I opened less than a week ago that the dog was licking clean last night…yup. bikini season, here I come!

Weekend Love

4 (22)

Spring time is finally here!! Which means I am craving smoothies and salads. And Vitamin D!

Also, grilling season is just around the corner and I need to try this Raspberry BBQ sauce.. yes, please.

How cute are these petite portobello pizzas??? I’m a sucker for anything described as “petite”.

Can’t stop thinking about these little lemon bites. yum.

Creating Space for Yourself – a good read about creating the feeling of spaciousness in your daily life.

6 health lessons from the paleo diet – I don’t support restricting yourself to a specific “diet” template but this article has some good points about living a healthy lifestyle that everyone can, and should, adopt.

Also, I loved this article with tips to lose weight that have nothing to do with food. I know this time of year is all about getting that “bikini body” ready and of course nutrition is important but self-love should ALWAYS come first!

Just because I do yoga, doesn’t mean I’m flexible. But it does mean I listen to my body.

And some good reminders 😉

“Show up for your fears today, even though you’re afraid…fears vanish as you continually face them!”

Weekend Inspiration

This is just a handful of links to articles and recipes that have inspired me lately. Enjoy!

Untranslatable words from other languages – these made me smile. Sobremesa: (Spanish) the time spent after lunch or dinner, talking to the people you shared the meal with. That’s the best part!

Blueberry Pizza – are you kidding me? YUM

Carrot Cake Waffle Breakfast Sandwich – carrot cake is one of my favorite desserts…what a great idea to turn it into breakfast!

Texas Roadhouse Bread Rolls with Cinnamon Butter – my mom raves about these and I remember eating them years ago… maybe it’s time to bring the roadhouse into our house.

Just in time for the end of summer

Vegetarian Grilling Recipes – 50, yes 50, recipes and I want to try every single one…perfect for labor day grilling shenanigans!

Summer Desserts – those Lemon Ricotta Cookies sound wonderful…

Ice cream round-up – strawberry lemonade cheesecake ice cream, how many desserts is that?? I want a big bowl of coffee ice cream with mud pie mojo…that has to be a great way to start the day right?

Last Minute Gardening – it’s not too late! Beets, arugula, beans, carrots…there’s still time to get ‘em in the ground before the end of summer.

What your food bank really needs – food banks and food shelves get a lot of donations around the holidays but it’s important to remember people need food all year long. Summer can be especially hard for families with children that are not in school.

Are you a victim of the Convenience Illusion? I know I used to be but ever since I started spending more time in the kitchen preparing my own meals, I can’t go back! I’m always excited to try new recipes and learn new cooking skills so it’s easy for me to form those habits.

Let me know what’s inspiring you in the comments!
